Identification of Injury Cause
Due to a large number of back injuries, management were concerned that staff were breaching work practice policies by lifting patients during in-home care visits.
Etiscope technology identified that there was a high risk to workers backs when carrying loads at an angle of 45-90 degrees. This occurred most often when staff took products to and from their vehicles. Other factors were identified including; reaching to open and close wide car doors, and being in a tucked seating position while driving.
The analysis allowed IL Management to determine that a SUV type, 4 door vehicle with a flat tray, and a more upright driving position reduced back strain and as a result, back claims significantly reduced over the following two years.
