AUSTRALIA POST
Best Practice at Lower Cost

Australia Post has successfully reduced medical referrals to their lowest level in 4 years and realised a 22% reduction in body stress injuries through injury prevention programs from EMPOnsite.

EMPOnsite used Etiscope automated task risk assessment technology to perform thousands of task risk assessments across different sites and Business Units to identify best practices in safety and apply those practices to other divisions.

By determining which interventions were most effective, EMPOnsite quickly identified contributing risk factors and developed best practice work processes. Where tasks were high risk and risk controls had not been effective, EMPOnsite could quickly and easily forward the task data to the engineering team for advanced risk controls.

WOOLWORTHS
Better Safety Investment

Woolworths were looking to purchase pallet wrapping machines to reduce the strain on worker’s backs which occurred as a result of manually wrapping pallets.

The purchases were going to be expensive and would impact on productivity as workers took pallets to and from the wrapping machine and waited for the machine to become available.

The Etiscope assessment of the manual process by HSE staff, found that by raising the pallet by 30cm, the strain on the worker’s back was significantly reduced.

They also identified that wrapping pallets at the end of aisles improved productivity by reducing transport time.

VISY
From High to ‘Zero Days Lost’

Visy Glass were concerned that their days lost to injury were above industry average. The Safety team implemented a comprehensive program to eradicate the cause of injury with the development of an holistic approach involving hazard identification and worker training programs.
Visy management were fully supportive as they could measure the reductions in risk which brought about the savings.

Since implementing their program of identify and elimination, they have achieved a full year of zero LTIs in July 2023.

STANBROKE
Wearable Sensor Trial

In 2022, Stanbroke Meats and the Australian Meat Processing Corporation undertook a nine month study into the effectiveness of Wearable Sensors within the meat processing industry. The study was completed and published in October 2023 showing that the outcomes were successful.  "The project was successful and processes remain ongoing as risk controls are implemented. Staff engagement in the safety process has been positive and is continuing to identify further risk reductions."

The full study is available on the AMPC website under research and development.

INTEGRATED LIVING
Identification of Injury Cause

Due to a large number of back injuries, the management team at Integrated Living were concerned that staff were lifting patients during in-home care visits.

Etiscope technology identified that there was a high risk to workers backs when carrying loads at an angle of 45-90 degrees. This occurred most often when staff took products to and from their vehicles. Other factors were identified including; reaching to open and close wide car doors, and being in a tucked seating position while driving.

The analysis allowed IL Management to determine that a SUV type, 4 door vehicle with a flat tray, and a more upright driving position reduced back strain and as a result, back claims significantly reduced over the following  two years.

ALLIANCE FARMERS PRODUCE
Measurable Benefits from Physio Programs

Alliance Meats had failed to reduce claims on the production line despite implementing job task rotation. When a study was undertaken using Etiscope, it was discovered that whilst the jobs were varied, the staff were still using similar muscle groups and therefore fatigue injuries continued.

The Etiscope physical demands library was able to identify tasks that used different muscle groups. As a result, management were able to rotate workers between tasks with different physical demands, which reduced injuries and subsequent claims.

Alliance Meats have now implemented Etiscope across all of their facilities.

GOLF AUSTRALIA
Identifying the Real Issue

Golf Australia asked Etiscope to investigate why Greenkeepers at one of their courses suffered from a high percentage of back issues and increased days lost to injury. The assumption was that Greens staff were damaging their backs when changing hole positions across the course. Etiscope worked with the Maintenance staff to assess various tasks and were able to identify that the greatest risk of injury was not changing holes, but a result of raking bunkers for extended period of time. Golf Australia were able to implement higher job rotation, with frequent breaks, and the metrics improved dramatically.
